An Unconventional Intro to Cryptocurrency

An Unconventional Intro to Cryptocurrency Cryptocurrency – What is it? Cryptocurrency is global digital currency that rests on blockchain technology. A mouthful, clearly, but simply put, it is digital currency that is not backed by or regulated by any government in the world. It is available in all countries and it is the same value in all countries as well. Some popular examples of cryptocurrencies include bitcoin and ethereum .   Why Cryptocurrency? The main idea behind cryptocurrency is decentralization of the value of currency. During the financial meltdown of 2008, the dollar, upon which the all other world currencies were pegged against, drastically lost value. That meant that when the value of the US dollar decreased, it affected currencies all over the world. At the time if cryptocurrency was as mainstream as traditional currency, the value of the cryptocurrency may not have been affected at all, because its value is not pegged against any other currency. ...

THE COSEKE EXPERIENCE When I first walked into The Coseke Kenya Limited offices, I was feeling overwhelmed and a little bit lost. This was going to be my new work place. I was scared of messing up, of people not liking me, of not living up to their expectations. I kept playing out all the worst case scenarios; literally hoping for the best but expecting the worst. What I was not aware of was that, this was going to be my new home. A place I would come to love, appreciate and devote all my effort to. A place where I would find a corporate family, that looks out for each other and will stop at nothing to ensure that the job is not just done but well done. A place that valued my youth, passion and drive. A place where my career would grow tremendously. This has been my Coseke experience. Curious to know how other people’s experience at Coseke has been, the writer in me went on a mission to interview as many people as I could about their Coseke Experience. What I heard were exc...

Reasons to conduct Virtual AGMs

Image
Reasons to conduct Virtual AGMs Virtual. This is currently one of the most used words in the ICT space. The prevailing pandemic has caused the way we work to morph in ways we would never have imagined two decades ago. It has pushed us to look for and formulate solutions to return life back to as normal as possible. Even the way society runs now has changed, in some ways for the better. Here are some pros of conducting virtual meetings: 1.      Cost All factors considered, including money, time and labor, it is cheaper to host a virtual AGM than it is to host an in-person A GM. When one considers an in-person AGM, the organizer will need to find a venue, print relevant information, organize for food, etc. However for a virtual AGM all that the organizer needs to do is provide a link from where all attendees may register and attend the AGM. Simply put an in person meeting has more moving parts than a virtual meeting. In terms of monetary cost, an in-person AGM...

IS YOUR BUSINESS INTELLIGENT?

Image
BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE. Business runs on data. Be it a kiosk on a street corner or a multi-national conglomerate whose leaders make informed decisions on how to position their products and serve their customers in different markets, data provides crucial information for the success and sustainability of businesses. Therein lies the challenge. Much as businesses derive data from their day to day operations, the task of compiling and turning the data into information that is palatable is daunting for most. That is why organizations are now turning to technological solutions that can make sense of data faster, more accurately and with better reporting methods. This is where Business Intelligence (BI) comes in.   Why Data Matters. As has been alluded to, successful business runs on data. It may very well be the brain of the business because using processed, well presented and easy to understand data, the management of an organization is able to make intelligent de...

Has your board met lately?

Image
HAS YOUR BOARD MET LATELY?   Many organizations have experienced major challenges in operations since the beginning of   2020, when COVID-19 hit the world hard. Organizations have been forced to source for industry-specific opportunities available in the market, to ensure that work continues effectively, albeit differently. Boards provide the crucial function of steering and providing oversight to organizations. Before the pandemic hit, boards would meet in-person in board rooms to discuss and make decisions in person, as was tradition. Prevailing conditions have challenged this, and now organizations have opted for tools to facilitate virtual meetings which offer more than virtual video calls do. Below are some of the ways e-board solutions have facilitated seamless continuity of board meetings and operations:   1.      Capability of Virtual meetings Board meetings can now be virtual, meaning that board members can meet remotely via E-Boar...

E-learning

E-learning Unlike traditional learning, whereby students physically attend school in order for them to learn; e-learning is conducted through internet-enabled devices. The system is based on formalized teaching on an electronic platform therefore, one has to have a computer and internet to access e-learning. There is a lot of educational content on the internet, most of it free and one could use a phone, computer, tablet to gain access to it. Students from any part of the world can attend classes or lectures and sit exams.   One of the first instances of online learning in the world can be traced back to 1960, at the University of Illinois, USA. The internet had not yet been introduced back then but the students were learning from a terminal interlinked to form a network. E-learning was later on introduced in November 1999, by Elliot Masie during his TechLearn conference at Disney World and that was the first time the word was used in a professional context. Online lea...

5G Networks: An Intro The next frontier in mobile connectivity on a global scale is 5G connectivity. Just like we hear the sound of rain before it arrives, the buzz about 5G networks is getting louder as the months and years progress. It is expected that by the year 2025, more than two thirds of the world’s hand held mobile devices will have the capability to access 5G networks. Currently there are some parts of the word where 5G capability is already a reality, such as China, South Korea and Germany.   What is 5G? 5G basically means the 5 th Generation of network capability. We are still currently at the 4 th Generation, hence 4G. To put this into perspective, 1G was the first analogue cellular system that was introduced in the 1980’s. After this it progressed to 2G then 3G…you get the drift. As expected there have been significant improve...
